|
|
Last saturday I went to a porsche garage to collect some special transmission oil for the trannny in the 03.
When I was in the shop, the owner came in and asked "who's ugly car is that out there?"
My reply that I thought he should have recognised 'Yellow-bird' (the nichname of the famous bright yellow Ruf CTR 911 from 2 decades ago) being a porsche shop owner and all or did he mean the water-cooler (944) out there? , did raise a few eye-brows.
"Well, I own two 412's, so I am just kidding"
Knowing they are a very reputable p-shop and knowing how many 412's are left did make this 'confession' quite a cool one.
So, it turned out to be a nice meet after all and we talked engines and putting porsche wheels on a 412 for quite a while
So, since that saturday, the car has his nickname

So when will have the performance of a true yellow bird? I´m just dying to see a big type 4 turbo in that thing! _________________ Surgeon General´s Warning: This vehicle is equipped with a turbocharger and may cause spinal injury during acceleration.

Yeah, only I don't think the gearbox can use any more power. Somehow I don't believe these type 4 tranny's are that strong...
After the 2 liter engine has served its pupose in the 03, I was thinking of maybe putting it over into the 412 _________________ Greets,

The type 4 tranny and the T2 bus tranny are the same, right? They take 300HP and up to 400NM.They´re quite strong. It will be able to take your 2.7 easy. _________________ Surgeon General´s Warning: This vehicle is equipped with a turbocharger and may cause spinal injury during acceleration.

Nope, they are totally different
The type 4 tranny is 'one of a kind'... _________________ Greets,

Wally, is the 411/412 probably the easiest car to retrofit a Porsche 5 speed into? The shift linkage looks near perfect hieght?
Is that the 944 owner questioning the location of his engine?

Yes, you may be very right about that. 100mm CV's are stock too and forward space is ample too.

Hehe..You know what the funny part was there? (not gonna believe this): The owner of that Porsche speciality garage has TWO type 4's himself!!(already wrote that huh? ) so him taking a picture of mine was tyo be expected, but still felt odd with so many nice and oler 911's in front of the shop
Remember, there are about 20 -30 of these cars still fully inspected and street-worthy at the moment in my country...
Another anecdote: Most convertibles that pass me or I them, pretend they don't notice the yellow odd-ball car of mine, but one very nice 911 convertible with two (older) guys in it almost twisted their necks haha!
I like that kind of little things a lot _________________ Greets,

I can't wait to drive my 411!! I've got my running gear in A1 condition now, Way too high for my liking, I need a couple of those 316 front coils (that you discovered ) Was it E30? ..I'll not be finding (or even looking for) the Koni's tho'. Remember I have less than £200 in this car, including it's very own WB and cable for my LM-1

I will look up the BMW part numbers that were stamped in the springs I have. Wrote those down somewhere...
Yes, I keep it sorta low budget as well. Tho the wheels were twice the whole car, cost wise haha!
BTW, just got a Haynes manual mailed from the UK to me today (evil-bay) _________________ Greets,

Well, I tried to top the above statement :
As the original M+S Wintertires on the 17" are almost gone, the bug wheels with their near-new tires will have to do for a while... _________________ Greets,

Withe regard to the topic, see what I came across on my holiday in germany, Schwarzwald this summer: A gasstation that not only sold LPG, but also Natural Gas (CNG)!
and doing the Schwarzwald Hochstrasse (sort of Route 66 of germany):
